Into The Wild: Feasting on the Foraged - $65

October 19, 2017  (10 am - 2 pm)  | The Barn of Chapel Hill

Foraging has become one of the hottest food trends – it’s hip, yet historic. The “forest to table” movement combines the childlike thrill of a scavenger hunt with the satisfaction of a good deal, since preparing a meal with flowers, foliage, fungi, and fruit procured from the land (as local as “eating local” can get) costs little to nothing. There are some rules of the game, however – and our experts will map it out for you!

At the Barn of Chapel Hill, a charming educational farm on the edge of Orange County, a small group (no more than two dozen) will head into the woods in search of wild edibles, led by experts from the Piedmont Picnic Project. Once you return, you will reap the benefits of your bounty with a wild cocktail class, led by our friends from Fair Game Beverage. Using previously foraged ingredients, chef Clark Barlowe will prepare a delicious lunch and give us a little post-polish on his foraging techniques before we head home. Get ready - it’s bound to be a wild time!

October 19, 2017  (6 - 8:30 pm)  | The Carrboro Town Commons

For the third year, TerraVita celebrates the men and women who love to play with fire, but with a twist. Hill Fire: Coastal Roast takes this once meat-centric dinner in a totally different direction (so read closely)... Instead of barbecue and meats over spits and grills, we'll celebrate the bounty of our shores and farms with a seafood and veg-forward inspired menu. We still have some of the best (from across the Southeast) bringing their best! Chefs, brewers, distillers, farmers and bakers coming together to prepare a fantastic dinner under the evening moonlight.

In addition to cider by James Creek Ciderhouse and craft beer by Fullsteam Brewery, here is our confirmed line up:

Seasoned in The South: A Tribute to Bill - $120

October 20, 2017  (6 - 9:30 pm)  |  The Barn of Chapel Hill

Bill Smith has cemented and expanded the Crook’s Corner legacy since 1993, preserving its classic dishes such as shrimp and grits, Mount Airy chocolate souffle cake and Hoppin’ John, while adding his own trademarks like house-cured eastern North Carolina corned ham, soft shell crabs, artichoke relish, honeysuckle sorbet and green peach salad.

Like Chapel Hill itself, Bill (a 50-year-resident) embodies both the traditions of the South – speaking often about the influence of his grandmothers’ and aunts’ cooking growing up in New Bern – and the open-mindedness of the area’s educated population, as he works outside of the kitchen to promote music, dance, literature and social justice.

While the late Bill Neal has been credited with giving Southern cuisine a strong national platform, Bill Smith has advanced it. At this familial dinner featuring surprise cameos, chefs who consider Bill Smith a mentor and a hero will honor him with courses served in a beautiful barn on the edge of Orange County. Dinners and evenings like this – and chefs like Bill Smith – don’t come around often. Confirmed talent for this dinner includes:
