In addition to owning two Durham eateries, Mattie founded the wildly successful TxakoliFest and new TxotxFest, the first cider festival in the Southeast. Black Twig Cider House offers more than 90 ciders on draft and bottled, making it the first cider house of its kind in the Southeast and one of only 10 cider restaurants like it in the country. Mattie is one of just eight certified cider experts to receive certification from the U.S. Association of Cider Makers at the first Cider Certification in February 2016. He has been featured in Imbibe Magazine, Bon Appetit, The Local Palate, and on Cider Chat.
