Chelsea and her fiancé – chef and brewer Mitch Sheppard – recently bought a 12-acre farm in his hometown of Stuart, VA, and are working on a farm/brewery/restaurant/convivial homestead for the property (yet to be named). The project will include a pop-up bakery.
Chelsea has previously worked in pastry at Canyon Kitchen at Lonesome Valley in Cashiers (with John Fleer), Blackberry Farm in Tennessee, and Inn on Biltmore Estate in Asheville. Although she worked in her uncle’s restaurant growing up, her move to Asheville in 2006 truly inspired her to focus on local farms and artisans. For the past 11 years, she has become more fascinated with preservation, gardening and fermentation. Chelsea runs Appalachian Virtue, driven by her love of all-natural body products, herbal medicine and holistic healing. She sells herbal teas, lip balms, scrubs and more.
