A family theme runs through Josh’s career. His restaurant’s name pays homage to his Italian family. The downtown Durham space displays framed vintage family photos on the walls. And his mother, Aunt Kay and grandmother passed along their passion for cooking to a young Josh in the first place.
Mothers & Sons brings local and seasonal ingredients to the authentic cuisine Josh grew up with, including pasta fatto a mano (handmade and hand rolled). In preparation for the opening in 2016, Josh spent four months in Italy, refining his skills. Josh attended the Connecticut Culinary Institute and previously cooked at the highly regarded La Morra Bacari in Brookline, MA, Jujube in Chapel Hill and Mateo (located next door to Mothers & Sons).
